Sri Lanka leveled the two-match Test series against Pakistan with a convincing 246-run victory in the second Test at the Sinhalese Sports Club Ground in Colombo on Monday.
This had lost the first Test by 12 runs, won the toss and elected to bat first. They scored 378 in their first innings before bowling Pakistan out for 231 and 261 in their respective innings.
Prabath Jayasuriya was the star of the show for Sri Lanka, taking 12 wickets in the match. He was ably supported by Ramesh Mendis, who took 9 wickets.
For Pakistan, Babar Azam top-scored with 81 in the first innings, while Imam-ul-Haq scored 49 in the second innings.
The win was Sri Lanka’s first Test win over Pakistan in four years. It was also their first Test win at the Sinhalese Sports Club Ground since 2014.

Sri Lanka’s batting was in good form in the first innings, as they scored 378. Dimuth Karunaratne top-scored with 93, while Dinesh Chandimal and Kusal Mendis scored 68 and 64 respectively.

Sri Lanka’s bowlers took control of the match in the second innings, as they bowled Pakistan out for 231. Prabath Jayasuriya was the star of the show, taking 5 wickets for 117 runs.
Pakistan’s batsmen struggled to cope with the Sri Lankan spinners, as they were able to take wickets at regular intervals. Only Imam-ul-Haq and Babar Azam offered any resistance, as they scored 49 and 34 respectively.
Sri Lanka’s bowlers then went on to score 360 in their second innings, taking a lead of 507 runs. This meant that Pakistan needed to bat out the entire day to avoid defeat.
However, Sri Lanka’s bowlers were too good for Pakistan, as they bowled them out for 261 to win the match by 246 runs.

With this victory, Sri Lanka leveled the two-match Test series 1-1. The final Test will be played at the P Sara Oval in Colombo from July 31 to August 4.

Pakistan’s batting remains a concern, as they have now failed to score a 300+ score in their last four Test matches. The batsmen need to find a way to score more runs if they want to be competitive in Test cricket.
